Have
you ever
gone into a club, discs in hand, only to
find out that all the KJ's music is on a computer? People feel two ways
about this. For one, you don't have to wear out your discs. On the
other hand, if the KJ doesn't have the version or song you are used to,
you are stuck, unless you're willing to try a different version.
Another down side to computer systems, if the computer goes up, and you
don't have a regular CDG player on hand, everyone's night is shot!
Two Guys
Karaoke were one of the
first in Maryland to use a computer system, and
they had at last count, over 75,000 songs, from DK, DK Millennium,
Chartbuster, Sound Choice, All Hits, Radio Stars, Legends, Dangerous,
Zoom;
you name it, they have it. And if they don't have something one week,
they
will have it the next week! They also keep their disc
players handy to accommodate the singers who have invested a lot of
money into their own collections.
On the pro-computer side, it's definitely a lot easier to carry a drive
and a screen, instead of fifteen cases of disks! And you can fit so
many songs on one of those drives. YIKES! The norm right now
is
between 30,000 and 75,000 songs, depending on how much space the drives
have.
One would imagine, the books that accompany such a collection must be
enormous! We heard that Main Event Entertainment has a book, with double columns(!),
that's
bigger than your head!!
As the technology
improves, and more KJs' backs give out on them, we
envision more of these computer shows in the future.
A plus for singers is not
leaving your disk at a show or spilling
something all over your collection!
Perhaps one day, they'll
invent a holographic karaoke device. If you're
unable to make it to the show, simply zap your holograph up there, and
get your songs in from the comfort of your bathtub... well maybe not
the bathtub.
